THE GREEN BLANKET
Recycled Mattresses Reinvented for Eco-Friendly Construction.
Executive Summary

The project aims to transform recycled mattresses into affordable, non-toxic insulation for construction projects, addressing the significant environmental impact caused by mattress disposal. Our proposal is a sustainable and cost-effective solution addressing mattresses that generate pollution at landfills, and providing the construction industry with an eco-friendly alternative for house insulation.
Therefore, the main issue lies with the 18.2 million mattresses that are disposed annually in the U.S come with a hassle, while people want to recycle them, they have to come up with different solutions and many times don’t have an ecofriendly option (MyEssentia.com, 2023). Only 19% of mattresses are recyle in only three states (Mattress Recycling Council,2024) . The solution proposed is to transform the mattresses into a high-quality and affordable home insulation blanket which targets construction industry’s needs for eco-friendly and affordable materials.
The value proposition of “The Green Blanket” is to offer key benefits which are locally sourced materials, high quality raw material that can create an effective insulator and soundproof product, and it offers an affordable and non-toxic option compared to products commonly used such as fiberglass. The value proposition effectively helps to reduce landfill waste caused by mattresses and decreases the carbon footpring compared to producing new insulation materials.
The Green Blanket follows and execution plan starting with securing the sourcing of recycled mattresses by creating partnerships with hospitals, residential buildings and university dorms that may seek to dispose of their mattresses. Second, the material will go to a processsing facility in which it will be transformed into the insulation material. Third, the product will be distributed through DIY retailers, and partnerships will be created as suppliers for construction companies that seek to reduce their carbon footprint.
The funding required to launch the project will come from government grants supporting start up and sustainable businesses, pitches to investors interested in green projects, and bank loans for small businesses with an estimated starting investment of $225,000 USD. Taking into account risks such as a stable supply source, a slow adoption rate by customers and initial slow efficiency. The project has potential to spread awareness of eco-friendly alternatives, and address the needs of a market that is expected to continue growing in the next years.
